| hello, world.
i really have dropped off the face of the planet. i don't remember the last time i spoke to anyone who reads xanga.
i went a little crazy. i got pretty miserable. i got as low as i can go.
and then when i was done, i stood up. i started working like a maniac. i got stranded in NYC. i took a glorious vacation in LA. i bought a truck.
i took responsibility for my life and realized there is far more to me than my failures.
my life is unconventional. i do not live a paint-by-numbers existence. and it is beautiful.
this december, in the middle of my 24th year on this earth, i am making a major change. i am moving to LA to try my hand at life, love, and see what i can make of myself.
is it scary? a little. but not as scary as the prospect of languishing for 6 more decades in the midwest. i need sun, i need heat, i need culture. i need SPACE.
i'm sorry i have lost touch with so many of you. i needed to isolate. i needed to be completely alone in order to figure out what i'm made of. it wasn't you, it was me.
isn't that what they always say? | | |

| Today was a short day, but it seemed interminable because I was so exhausted. I only got 3 hours of sleep last night, so it was hard to be enthusiastic about doing things like ... visiting Lincoln's birthplace. I started reading Carrie today and decided I'm going to start telling people the character is my namesake. The truth is I almost wasn't named Carrie because of the book, but I think my story is more interesting. I really like King's prose style - not overwhelmingly verbose but also not choppy. I'd never read a single word the man wrote before today, so it's a nice change.
We hadn't even gotten to southern Ohio yet when we saw a bumper sticker that said "Are you following JESUS this close?" Ha.
Now we're getting into southern Ohio. There was a billboard right before this one that said something about "where will YOU be spending eternity." Yayyy.
It rained almost all day today. Nevertheless, I was struck by how lush and green Kentucky is. KY is so close to Ohio, but we're just too overpopulated to look like this anymore.
My reading material.
We're Nashville bound!
This truly is the most awesome flea market in the world! I mean, they wouldn't lie, would they?
Hey, mambo! Mambo Italiano!
We were very close to this truck.
I took this picture through the lense of my sunglasses.
Can you spot the Fleetwood Mac connection?
In Hodgenville, Kentucky, everything is named after Lincoln.
Everything.
No, seriously. Everything.
How fast can you hump? At the Abraham Lincoln National Historical Site, they advocate doing it 15 MPH.
I always wondered what kind of car Jesus drove.
The walkway up to the monument. I love my camera because it took this perfectly clear pictures while I was walking.
There was a cabin inside the monument. I don't think it was the actual cabin Lincoln was born in, but it's apparently old enough that you can't take flash pictures inside the monument.
This is the natural spring where Lincoln's family would retrieve their water. It was amazing - after walking down 3 or 4 steps, the temperature suddenly dropped about 15 degrees.
A closer view.
This is me being really tired and cranky at Mammoth Cave. We got there and found out we had to come early to reserve a time to take a tour.
More green rolling hills.
Now it's time to sleep. Tomorrow we are Arkansas bound.
